Deep and Abiding Love AND a Giveaway!

I have a secret.  It’s not a big secret, really, just involves love, loyalty and (in)fidelity.  See, I love Target with all my heart.  It’s not uncommon, after all they have such cool stuff and it’s cheap and it’s fun to browse and the clearance! Oh, the clearance *sigh*

Anyway, my secret is that I also have a deep, abiding love for Walgreens.  For me, Walgreens came before Target.  My relationship with Walgreens began when I was in college and they were the nearest pharmacy and things just, well, grew from there.  Then I found Target and fell in love and I pledged my loyalty.  But I never actually quit Walgreens.  It’s close, it’s open 24 hours and it’s been there for me in ways that Target has not/can not.

When I’m in a funk, I can wander around Walgreens and not get completely lost like I can at Target.  I can also walk out with a few fun little things without dropping $100.  After delivering each of my children, Walgreens was my first outing.  I didn’t have to walk too much or be far from home but I could still get out and wander a bit.  So that’s my secret.  I’m cheating on Target with Walgreens.  This is what I found last week:

I have a thing for pens.  For some it’s candles or stationary, scrapbooking supplies or makeup; for me it’s pens.  So I picked these up and I’m very happy.  Not only are they Sharpie markers but they are the fat, “chisel tip” ones which are really fun to color with!  I use them to decorate file folders.  Is that weird too?

THEN, there were these.  My love for post-its and especially magnetic notepads rivals my love for pens.  How CUTE IS THIS?

And my favorite find from this trip, this ADORABLE little pill case for my purse!  I’ve been using an old mint tin for a while now but it’s not ideal and now I have one that will fit everything AND be adorable.

My sincerest apologies for the terrible photo-quality.  Still no batteries for the real cameras.  Guess that means a trip to Walgreens!

On to the giveaway.  Here’s the deal.  I would LOVE to put together a package of little things for someone because how much more fun can it get?  Presents, shipping, GETTING presents…it’s ALL GOODNESS.  So here’s the rules.  If you want a care package containing gods-know-what from me you need to leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite thing to buy just for fun.  I’ll use to choose the winner on Wednesday, February 9.  Good luck!

I'm a 30-something married SAHM which means the nightmare scenario that plagued my early 20's has become reality. Funny thing is, I kinda like it. I have 3 lovely daughters who are educated at home and at a part-time alternative school. I love animals and I love people (in the general sense, not everybody all the time). I have no income to speak of, I'm not crafty and I hate cooking. My skills include reading the internet, watching tv on the internet and conversing with people on the internet. I'm an armchair philosopher, spiritualist, agnostic, feminist, liberal, activist, political pundit and tv critic.

When I read “I love Target with all my heart,” I thought you were talking about the new puppy! 😉

I love to browse target clearance. My favorite is finding steals on clothes. .94 shirts!

Never read your blog before but this one caught my eye (not sure why). I like this idea. My New Years Resolution this year is to do a random act of kindness each month. 6 will be for people I know who I think about often but don’t always say it and 6 will be complete strangers. January’s was some random guy in the Taco Bell drive-thru. I bought his lunch. Anyways this reminds me of that.

I would have to say it took me a minute to think of what I could write about but i think I’ve got it. If you ask my husband he would say I buy these even when I don’t need them. I have a thing for Rubbermaid totes. I think it’s because I want to be organized but I’m not. I guess I think if I buy them somehow I can magically “get it together”!

I love random acts of kindness! I’m thinking about doing something similar to what a friend of mine is doing and sending hand written letters to anyone who wants one!
I have thing for storage containers as well. 🙂

I might have to steal this idea for my own blog! I love getting and giving presents–what a great idea. My favorite thing to by for myself is a journal. (I’m a writer, what can I say?) But, it can’t be just any journal; I’m pretty specific. I love Sharpies, too, though I rarely buy them. I kind of have a thing for office supplies, but don’t really need many, so I try to avoid those aisles.

Oh man, I love wandering the aisles of Rite Aid or Longs (the two drug stores in my neighborhood) too! My favorite section is the As Seen On TV shelf – I can ALWAYS find something there for shits & giggles. Last time it was that Emory Board cat scratching thingy and I must say my cats DO love that thing 😉

i love this post. Walgreen’s is pretty great. It’s always open – especially when you realllllly need something. Hmmm, my favorite random purchase has to be thrift-store finds. I love walking around (I can literally spend two hours just browsing). I always head straight for the kids books. I’ve found all kinds of really cool vintage kids books – like Sesame Street pre-Elmo, and loads of Golden Books for just $.25! My thrift store outings always seem to cheer me up (especially if I’m alone!).

Don’t need anything!!! Just wanted to comment on your love of pens. I love them too!!! Maybe it’s a family thing? Have you tried the sharpie clickey pen? To die for!….. Just thought you should know 🙂

  8. Suzanne says:

I love Sharpies too! One of my favorite gifts was a huge plastic pack of them, it must have had 80 fine tip sharpies in it, in every color of the rainbow! I also love buying lipstick, though I rarely do anymore. Chocolate bars, “Fruit and Nut” bars specifically, and trashy magazines…. ah, shopping. How I miss thee!

My favorite things to buy at random are vintage housewares and anything from the fabric store. You wouldn’t think the odd denim machine needles or spools of hand quilting thread would satisfy the urge to shop, but they do!
